On July 27, the Downtown Truro Partnership will have two free movie screenings at the Marigold Cultural Centre. Hairspray at 6:00 pm and Cloudburst* at 8:30 pm.
Hairspray presents a pleasantly plump teenager, Tracy Turnblad, teaching 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show. (2007; rated PG)
Cloudburst features a lesbian couple who escape from their nursing home and head up to Canada to get married. Along the way, they pick up a young, male hitchhiker. Starring Olympia Dukakis, Brenda Fricker and Ryan Doucette, with Nova Scotia as their backdrop.
*Cloudburst contains mature language and some nudity. Viewer discretion is advised.
Come witness history with the unveiling of the Colchester Nova Scotia official tartan at the Civic Square, Truro on September 8th at 6.30pm to commemorate Colchester County's first Highland Games & Gathering taking place on September 9th.
The event will be hosted by the Colchester Highland Games & Gathering Society. All three mayors from the County of Colchester will be present as well as Chief Bob Gloade & Mrs Jean Watson (the person who campaigned to have tartan day officially recognised the world over) who will unveil the tartan.
Music will be provided by Clann an Drumma (Celtic Tribal band from Glasgow, Scotland) and Good Times Fiddlers (Colchester County). There will also be some ceilidh dancing where everyone is invited to join in.
