Truro Public Library, 3 - 4:30 p.m.; work on needlework crafts; bring a project, or help knit a community project. Basic knitting, crochet instruction available. Ages 8 and up.

Pride Week Movies at the Marigold

On July 27, the Downtown Truro Partnership will have two free movie screenings at the Marigold Cultural Centre. Hairspray at 6:00 pm and Cloudburst* at 8:30 pm. Hairspray presents a pleasantly plump teenager, Tracy Turnblad, teaching 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show. (2007; rated PG) Cloudburst features a lesbian couple who escape from their nursing home and head up to Canada to get married. Along the way, they pick up a young, male hitchhiker. Starring Olympia Dukakis, Brenda Fricker and Ryan Doucette, with Nova Scotia as their backdrop. *Cloudburst contains mature language and some nudity. Viewer discretion is advised.

Presented by the Truro Harness Horse Owners Association and the NSPEC Complex Tickets are $5 for 1 or $20 for 5 and can be purchased throughout the week at the NSPEC Complex or at any live racing event at Truro Raceway. Draws are Sundays at 3:00pm until the Ace of Spades is drawn. Follow us on Facebook @NSPECComplex for up-to-date jackpot information. Every week 50% of the sales goes to the THHOA and NSPEC. 30% of the sales is added to the pot. 20% of the sales is given to the weekly winner. The weekly winner is then able to choose a card from the remaining deck. If they choose the Ace of Spades, the winner received the jackpot as well as their 20% winnings.
