2022 Tree Planting Rebate Program

For the 16th year the Town of Truro will be offering cash rebates to residents and businesses towards the purchase price of trees planted within the Town of Truro. The intent of the program is to provide an incentive to Truro citizens to plant new trees as part of the town’s urban forest. The urban forest is vital green infrastructure which provides numerous benefits to us all, far beyond mere aesthetics.

The Tree Committee’s annual urban tree planting programs continues the tradition of encouraging Truro residents to plant new trees in our community and has been doing so for the past 50 years! Under the rebate program participants may apply for a rebate of 50% of the purchase price for up to ten (10) trees per property, to a maximum of $50 per tree! Labour costs to have trees planted are not eligible for the rebate. To qualify for the rebate, trees must have been purchased from a commercial retailer, be appropriate for our plant hardiness zone (Canadian Zone 5 or hardier), and a copy of the original sales receipt must be provided. The program runs between May 1, 2022 and September 30, 2022, or until available program funding is runs out.

Beginning in 2017, in the interest of diversity, Norway maple and cultivars (Acer platanoides) will no longer be accepted under the tree planting rebate program!

Beginning in 2018 ash species (Fraxinus) will not be eligible for the rebate due to EAB!

Please Note this is a Tree Rebate Program not a Landscaping rebate program, therefore shrubs and bushes do not qualify.

To apply for the rebate participants simply contact the Truro Tree Committee, after the trees have been purchased and planted, and a site visit will be arranged to view the trees in the ground at the identified property. A rebate application will be completed and a cheque from the Town will be processed and mailed to the applicant. To apply for the rebate, and arrange for a site visit, contact Jenna Brown at 902-895-4243 or at .

Truro’s urban forest benefits us all, and it needs YOUR help to ensure its long-term health and sustainability. Urban forests are a front-line defense against global climate change and help manage stormwater runoff and flooding!
