Equipment Loan Program

The Town of Truro has various equipment available for rent, free of charge. See details below. 

Winter Equipment

  • Classic Cross Country Skis: We have skis, boots, and poles that will fit adults and children no smaller than 60 lbs.
  • Skate Skis: We have a very limited quantity of skis and boots.
  • Snowshoes: We have a limited quantity ranging from children to adult size.

The above equipment is available on the following pick-up/return schedule:
- Pickup Thursday between 9:30 am-4:00 pm - Return Monday between 9:30 am-4:00 pm
- Pickup Friday between 9:30 am-4:00 pm - Return Tuesday between 9:30 am-4:00 pm

We also have the following equipment available:

  • Sledges: We have sizes ranging from children to adults. Must be pre-booked.
  • Snowcoaches: One size fits most. Must be pre-booked.
  • Ice-Skates: We have sizes ranging from children to adults, available to be borrowed directly from the Colchester-East Hants Public Library. Skates are available free of charge, but you must have a Library Card for rental. For more information watch the video at Skate Loan Program on Facebook.
         ▪ 2 Day Loan - with your library card on the followings days:
             ▪ Tue's: 5:00-7:30pm
             ▪ Wed's: 5:00-7:30pm
             ▪ Fri's: 1:00-4:30pm
             ▪ Sat's 10:00am-2:00pm
         ▪ What you need to know:
             • Skates can be borrowed by anyone ages 14 and up.
             • You need a library card to borrow, but signing up is quick and easy.
             • Borrow up to two pairs at a time.
             • Return to the outdoor skate return bin, or at the front desk during skate loan hours.

Summer Equipment

The following equipment is available to borrow free of charge:

  • Bocce Ball
  • Yard Jenga
  • Giant Lawn Checkers
  • Giant Lawn Chess, Parachute
  • Small Pylons
  • Flag Rugby
  • Ladder Ball
  • Giant Badminton Racquets
  • Regular Badminton Racquets
  • Flying Ring Golf

Adaptive Recreation Equipment 

The Adaptive Recreation Equipment Loan Program is for those who experience physical challenges or for any individuals who would benefit from using the equipment.  

This program provides opportunities to borrow a variety of equipment. If you are interested in borrowing a piece of equipment for the first time, we recommend that you contact Recreation Therapy – Pediatric Rehabilitation at the IWK Health Centre for an initial assessment at (902) 470-3840. 

We have the following equipment available:

  • Hippocampe (child and adult) 
  • Duet-Cycle
  • Sledges
  • Snowcoaches
  • Tomato Seats
  • Skate Helper Skate Aids (available while using Colchester Legion Stadium)
