Town of Truro Implements Fire Safety Restrictions in Response to Provincial Directive

In alignment with the recent fire prevention measures announced by the Province of Nova Scotia, the Town of Truro is implementing temporary restrictions aimed at protecting public safety and natural areas during the ongoing dry weather conditions.
Effective immediately, all trail networks within Victoria Park and the Railyard Mountain Bike Park will be closed to the public until further notice. This precaution is necessary to mitigate the risk of wildfires during this period of heightened fire danger.
Signage has been placed in Truro's parks to alert the public to the increased risk of wildfire and to provide guidance on what to do in the event of a fire outbreak.
While trail access is restricted, the lower playground, outdoor pool, and field areas at Victoria Park will remain open for public use. The portion of Cobequid Trail that is within the Town of Truro will also remain open. Additionally, all other parks and playgrounds throughout the Town of Truro remain open for recreational activities.
As part of these safety measures, no barbeques of any kind are permitted in any Town of Truro parks during this time. This includes charcoal, propane, and electric barbeques. The use of firewood or open flames is strictly prohibited.
The Town reminds all residents and visitors that all Truro parks are designated smoke-free zones, and smoking is strictly prohibited. The risk of fire from discarded cigarette butts is extremely high in these dry conditions, and the Town urges everyone to be vigilant and respectful of these safety rules.
Violations of this fire safety order are subject to a $25,000 fine, enforceable by the Truro Police Service, NS Department of Natural Resources, or the RCMP.
The Town of Truro encourages the public to be proactive in reporting any fire-related concerns.
Please report any smoking, fires, or suspicious activity on Town property to the Truro Police Service immediately.

The Town of Truro's Strategic Plan for 2025-2028 outlines the community's vision, mission, and values, while establishing clear pillars, strategic outcomes, and actions to guide the work of the Town over the next three years. Developed at the start of the current Town Council's term, the plan will be reviewed and updated annually as part of the ongoing strategic planning process to ensure it remains responsive to the changing needs of the community.
This plan serves not only as a roadmap for progress but also as a tool for accountability. It will guide the development of annual operational and capital plans, ensuring that resources are effectively aligned with the identified priorities. Regular oversight and reporting mechanisms will be implemented to track progress, measure results, and make adjustments as necessary to stay on course. Through this process, the Town of Truro is committed to transparent decision-making and delivering meaningful, measurable results for its residents.

Call for Board Members - Central Nova Scotia Tourism Development Society

In 2024, the County of Colchester and the Town of Truro, along with the partnership of the Town of Stewiacke and Millbrook First Nation, proactively facilitated Tourism Atlantic’s (ACOA) Strategic Tourism Expansion Program (STEP) process to create a Regional Strategic Tourism Plan for the region. The Plan, which was approved by each partner in February and March 2025, addresses existing opportunities and challenges and lays the foundation for long-term initiatives to ensure responsible and sustainable success for the region’s communities, citizens, and tourism sector.

Now that the STEP strategy has been adopted by each partner, we are collectively working towards the development of the Central Nova Scotia Tourism Development Society. We are currently accepting applications for the inaugural Board of Directors. This new regional organization will help guide the use of Marketing Levy funds and lead implementation of the Truro-Colchester STEP Tourism Plan.
