Community Action Fund
What is the Community Action Fund?
The Community Action Fund provides financial support to residents of Truro and Colchester County, helping them participate in experiences that promote physical, social, intellectual, creative, and spiritual well-being. By engaging in recreational activities, individuals can build confidence and self-esteem, improve health and wellness, develop leadership skills, forge friendships, and enjoy the opportunity to be part of a team.
How Can I Contribute to the Fund?
The Community Action Fund relies on the generosity of the community. If you would like to make a donation, please do so through the United Way of Colchester & Cumberland Counties. Donations can be made by calling United Way at 902-895-9313 or emailing
The Why
Recreation and sport activities are essential to fostering stronger, healthier communities. A legacy donation from the late William “Bill” Lake sparked a partnership between the United Way of Colchester, Town of Truro, and Colchester County to provide financial support for individuals of all ages to engage in local recreational activities. This promotes an active lifestyle and encourages community well-being. It is our hope that others will be inspired by Bill Lake’s generosity and contribute to the ongoing strength of our community.
Who Can Apply?
Residents of the Town of Truro and Colchester County who need financial assistance to participate in a recreational activity are eligible to apply, provided they do not qualify for other existing funding programs (such as KidSport, Jump Start, Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund, etc.) due to the type of sport/activity or age restrictions.
Please note the following:
