Call for Proposals

We’re seeking passionate instructors to lead craft and physical activity sessions for our Seniors Crafternoons and Active Aging Adventures programs! If you have experience in arts, crafts, or fitness and can create fun, inclusive sessions for seniors of all abilities, we’d love to hear from you!

Participants would sign up for a six-week session, each week they would get to try a new activity. Each respective instructor would lead one of the weekly classes.

Seniors Crafternoon’s

Calling all seniors!! Join us for a six classes of fun-filled afternoons of crafting for all skill levels, where instructors will guide you through our project. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a crafting newbie, there's a seat at the table just for you! Expect laughter and surprises; it's an adventure waiting to happen!

You can expect to complete multiple types of crafting including card making, wood working, canvas painting and more!

Active Aging Adventure’s

Are you a senior who is ready to embark on a journey of movement, joy, and wellbeing? Join our seniors activity classes, where all levels are not only welcome but celebrated! No prior experience needed – just bring your enthusiasm, and we'll provide the rest. Our skilled instructors are here to guide you through a variety of activities designed to boost your strength, flexibility, and overall vitality. Get ready to make new friends and discover the joy of staying active. It's not just a fitness class; it's a celebration of your wellbeing!

You can expect a different class each week. Some examples of potential classes are: Line Dancing, Pound, QiGong, Zumba, Chair Yoga, Pickleball, and Belly Dancing.

Workshops

Ski Maintenance Workshop

Get ready to keep your skis in top shape this winter! Join us on December 16, from 7:00-9:00pm., at the Douglas St Recreation Centre, for a hands-on Ski Maintenance Workshop led by experienced ski technician Ike Whitehead. With over 50 years in the sport, Ike is passionate about helping skiers optimize their equipment for a smooth, enjoyable ride. This workshop is perfect anyone eager to learn essential maintenance techniques, practice on equipment, and gain skills. From equipment selection to waxing, learn simple techniques that will protect your investment and enhance your skiing experience. Don't miss this opportunity to gain confidence and knowledge for the season ahead!

Sportball Multi-Sport

Sportball Sports Instruction For Kids

Our Multi-Sport programs provide children with a skills-driven, high-energy, and fun-filled curriculum. Multi-Sport introduces children to the fundamental concepts and skills behind eight popular sports: soccer, hockey, basketball, baseball, volleyball, tennis, golf & football. Using creative instruction and positive encouragement, the program focuses on the development of gross motor skills, balance, strength, coordination, stamina, and timing. Equipment is age-appropriate and sized for the children in the programs.

Sunday Programs

  • Ages: 16-24 mth (Parent participation) – 9:00-9:45am
  • Ages: 2-3 yr (Parent participation) – 10:00-10:45am

  • Ages: 5-7 yr (Drop-off) – 12:15-1:15pm
  • Ages: 8-11 yr (Drop-off) – 1:30-2:30pm

Adult Badminton

This 1/2 gym, drop-in adult badminton program is supervised by Town of Truro staff and allows for unstructured scrimmage play for those 17 and older.

Notes: 
- Drop-in program, no pre-registration required.

- We do have some equipment on hand, but players can bring their own.
- Please bring indoor shoes.



Adult Basketball

Location: Truro Middle School

This drop-in adult basketball program is supervised by Town of Truro staff and allows for unstructured 1/2-court scrimmage play for those 17 years of age and older.

- Drop-in program, no pre-registration required.
- Please enter through gym doors.
- Bring a water bottle.
- We do have some equipment on hand, but players can bring their own.
- Please bring indoor shoes.



Pickleball

Drop-in pickleball programs that allow for unstructured scrimmage play.

Date: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays
Time: 12:00-2:00pm

Parent & Tot Open Gym

Date: Tuesdays & Thursdays
Times: 9:00-11:00am
Location: Douglas Street Recreation Centre  

Playtime was created especially for families! Preschool-aged children and their guardians are invited to explore various sports (equipment provided) and other toys. It’s a great way to stimulate mental and physical growth.

- Drop-in program, no pre-registration required.
- There are no staff at this program, parents must stay with children.
- Bring a water bottle.
- Please bring indoor shoes.



Night Hikes

Date: Mondays 
Time: 6:30-8:00pm
Location: Truro Middle School

Night hike season is back! Here is bit about what to expect and how to prepare.

  • Please refrain from bringing your pets.
  • Must have a headlamp ,water, snack and a smile.
  • Expect a moderate pace, laughter, and a welcoming environment. Please note that we will only be hiking the open trails in the park.

When arriving we will direct you to the group gathering area for your choice of hike. We will have 4 areas for you to gather. Tea, Latte, Cappuccino, and Double Espresso; you pick your drink of choice. Each group will be hiking for 1 1/2 hours.

  • Tea - will walk only double tracks. Expect lots of stops and pictures.
  • Latte -  will have a similar pace as tea but will venture on a couple of single track trails. With stops as needed.
  • Cappuccino - will be more single track, a slightly faster pace, and not as many stops.
  • Double espresso - the name says it all. Expect any trail, very limited stops and only one picture stop.

Hikes happen every monday night until mid Feb. There will be Facebook Events for each hike (we will add them as they are created). Keep an eye on the individual events for updates.
