On Monday, March 3rd, 2025, Truro Town Council officially accepted the recommendation to rename the TAAC Grounds on Golf Street to "𝗡𝗼. 𝟮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆". This decision honours the legacy of the No. 2 Construction Battalion, the first and only segregated all-Black battalion in Canadian military history, which trained on these grounds.
The sub-committee of the Town’s African Nova Scotia Community Strategy Committee met on February 19th to review the submissions. After careful discussion, the sub-committee recommended "No. 2 Construction Battalion Athletic Facility". While several creative suggestions aligned with the guidelines, many entries emphasized the importance of a direct, definitive name that fully includes the Battalion’s official title. This perspective was thoroughly discussed and unanimously supported.
To celebrate the community's involvement, the $50 honorarium will be shared between:
𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙧𝙤 𝙈𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙡𝙚 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡, 𝙈𝙧𝙨. 𝙇𝙮𝙣𝙙𝙨 & 𝙈𝙨. 𝙑’𝙨 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙚 7 𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨 - $50

A memorial and educational panels will be installed as part of the site's revitalization. We look forward to unveiling the monument and celebrating the grand reopening in Summer 2025.
Thank you to everyone who participated!
