Public Notice - Voluntary Water Conservation Measures in Effect
Town of Truro – Public Notice | Voluntary Water Conservation Measures in Effect
Please be advised that as of Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the Town of Truro is implementing voluntary water conservation measures.
Recent dry weather conditions are impacting the local water source, and current water levels in the reservoir are approximately 3 metres lower than they were at this time last year. Based on previous years, water levels in the reservoir typically do not begin to recover until late November.
To help preserve the Town's water supply during this extended dry period, please use water wisely and reduce non-essential use whenever possible.
Here are some simple ways to help:
- Limit lawn and garden watering.
- Avoid car washing and pool filling
- Reduce outdoor water use.
- Fix leaks and use water-efficient appliances.
The Town will continue to monitor watershed conditions and reservoir levels and will share any updates or changes to these voluntary measures as needed.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
CORRECTION NOTICE: updated hearing date - Re: Re: 4 Belgrave Terrace – Notice of Variance Hearing
CORRECTION NOTICE: updated hearing date (Monday, September 8th, 2025)
Re: 4 Belgrave Terrace – Notice of Variance Hearing
Pursuant to Sections 235–237 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), notice is hereby given that the Development Officer for the Town of Truro has refused a variance application to permit the construction of an 18.59 m (61 ft) long by 2.44 m (8 ft) high fence along the west side of the property abutting the east side of Young Street. The variance was requested to replace the existing 1.52 m (5 ft) high wood panel fence with one-inch gaps between panels.
Reason for Refusal
1. Fence Height Restrictions
- The subject property is located on a corner lot, abutting Belgrave Terrace (front) and Young Street (flanking side).
- Pursuant to Section 3.1.11(c)(i) of the Town of Truro Land Use By-law, fences located within 2.0 m (6.6 ft) of a lot line abutting a street shall not exceed 1.0 m (3.3 ft) in height.
- The requested 2.44 m (8 ft) fence would exceed this maximum permitted height by 58.75% and would also exceed the existing fence height by 37.5%.
- Approval of the variance would therefore contravene the By-law, which is intended to maintain a consistent, attractive, and inviting streetscape appearance.
Notice of Hearing
In accordance with Section 236 of the MGA, a public hearing will be held before Town Council to allow the applicant and members of the public within 30m of the subject property to speak on this variance refusal:
Date: Monday, September 8, 2025
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Location: 3rd fl. Council Chambers, Town Hall, 695 Prince Street, Truro, N.S.
If you wish to make a presentation at the hearing or provide written comments, please submit them to Truro Town Council, addressed to Michael Dolter, CAO, Town of Truro, 695 Prince Street, Truro, N.S., B2N 1G5, by September 3, 2025.
