In alignment with the recent fire prevention measures announced by the Province of Nova Scotia, the Town of Truro is implementing temporary restrictions aimed at protecting public safety and natural areas during the ongoing dry weather conditions.
Effective immediately, all trail networks within Victoria Park and the Railyard Mountain Bike Park will be closed to the public until further notice. This precaution is necessary to mitigate the risk of wildfires during this period of heightened fire danger.
Signage has been placed in Truro's parks to alert the public to the increased risk of wildfire and to provide guidance on what to do in the event of a fire outbreak.
While trail access is restricted, the lower playground, outdoor pool, and field areas at Victoria Park will remain open for public use. The portion of Cobequid Trail that is within the Town of Truro will also remain open. Additionally, all other parks and playgrounds throughout the Town of Truro remain open for recreational activities.
As part of these safety measures, no barbeques of any kind are permitted in any Town of Truro parks during this time. This includes charcoal, propane, and electric barbeques. The use of firewood or open flames is strictly prohibited.
The Town reminds all residents and visitors that all Truro parks are designated smoke-free zones, and smoking is strictly prohibited. The risk of fire from discarded cigarette butts is extremely high in these dry conditions, and the Town urges everyone to be vigilant and respectful of these safety rules.
Violations of this fire safety order are subject to a $25,000 fine, enforceable by the Truro Police Service, NS Department of Natural Resources, or the RCMP.
The Town of Truro encourages the public to be proactive in reporting any fire-related concerns.
Please report any smoking, fires, or suspicious activity on Town property to the Truro Police Service immediately.
