In 2025, the Town of Truro and the Municipality of Colchester commissioned a study to examine the feasibility of a public transit service for the region. Public transit offers the potential to reduce transportation emissions and reliance on passenger vehicles, address energy poverty, and ensure equitable access to jobs, housing, amenities, and services in the region.
The geographic scope for this study is all of Colchester County, which has a population of around 51,500 people. Thousands of people travel into and out of Truro and Central Colchester from all over the region for employment, education, and services.
A copy of the final report is available here:
The final report outlines the findings of the study, including an assessment of current transportation needs, potential service models, and considerations for introducing a regional transit system.
Truro Town Council is currently reviewing the report and considering next steps related to potential implementation. This includes evaluating service options, partnership opportunities, funding requirements, and long-term operational considerations.
The Town of Truro and Colchester County would like to thank residents and stakeholders who participated in the study through surveys and engagement sessions. Public input played an important role in shaping the findings and recommendations presented in the report.
Updates will be shared as Council advances discussions and decisions regarding regional transit.
