2025 marks a new year and the 150th anniversary of Truro's incorporation! Our community’s rich history began over 11,000 years ago with the Mi’kmaq people, known as the We’kwampekitk, meaning "end of the waters flow." Their enduring presence and culture are integral to our shared heritage.
Over the centuries, Truro has grown with contributions from Acadians, African Nova Scotians, British settlers, and people from around the world. The arrival of the Nova Scotia Railway in 1858 transformed Truro into a bustling hub, paving the way for its incorporation in 1875.
This year, the Town of Truro proudly marks 150 years of rich history, vibrant community, and forward-thinking growth. Join us as we commemorate this incredible milestone with events, stories, and moments that celebrate our past, present, and future.
