In 2022, the Town of Truro received $5.87 million in funding through the Investing in Infrastructure Canada Fund for the TAAC Revitalization Project. This total $8.6 million project will see the former TAAC Grounds split into two locations. The first location, at the existing TAAC Grounds on Golf Street will see the refit of the current grounds with a multi-sport all-weather field and synthetic 8-lane track with regulation throwing areas. The second location, off Argus Drive, will see the baseball diamond relocated and upgraded to a senior-sized, championship-quality baseball field.
Construction is expected to begin at the TAAC Grounds on Golf Street in the coming weeks. The Town is pleased to award the construction contract for this part of the project to local company, Global Construction (Maritimes), who will collaborate with The Glenn Group, based out of Fredericton, NB. The total cost of this portion of the project is $6.8 million.
During construction, the TAAC Grounds will be closed to the public. Safety fencing and signage will be put in place to mark these closures.
“We’re so happy to see this project begin construction. It took many years of hard work by our community and all levels of government to make this project a reality,” stated Mayor Bill Mills. Town of Truro, “Once complete, Truro will have two premier facilities to build on sport, recreation, health and wellness.”
The Glenn Group was also awarded the design and construction management contract for the baseball facility on Argus Drive. This will be a two-phased project, and once the design drawings are complete, a tender for construction on the ballfield facility will be issued. Once construction begins on the ballfield facility, the Argus Drive location will also be closed to the public.
