...Each year the Town of Truro offers cash rebates to citizens who purchase and plant trees within the Town of Truro. The intent of the program is to incentivize citizens to plant new trees to keep Town’s urban forest healthy and growing. The urban forest provides numerous benefits, far beyond the aesthetics.
Under the Tree Planting Program, participants can apply for a rebate of 50% of the total purchase price for up to ten (10) trees per property, to a maximum of $50 per tree! Labour costs to have trees planted are not eligible for the rebate.
To qualify for the rebate:
The program runs annually between May and September, or until available program funding has been disbursed, whichever comes first.
To apply, participants must contact the Town of Truro after the trees have been purchased and planted. A site visit will be arranged to view the trees planted at the identified property.
After the site visit, a rebate application and rebate cheque will be completed and processed.
To apply for the rebate download 2024 Tree Planting Rebate Program, or arrange for a site visit.

Looking for a specific program you might be interested in? The Town of Truro offers countless opportunities for all citizens!
In March 2019, Truro lost Skyler Blackie, a community asset and an extremely passionate firefighter. To honour the late Skyler Blackie, an obstacle race was created in his memory, combining his love of fitness, Victoria Park, and Truro.
The Skyler Blackie Fit to Be a Hero Challenge is a chip-timed 5 km adventure race with challenging obstacles (stairs, walls, tires, hills, and lots more). The challenge takes place in Victoria Park and incorporates the historic landscape of the park, including Jacob's Ladder. Open to those ages 12 and up.
There are two categories:
You're an elite athlete if you're competing to win and race against the best of the best! Elite racers will adhere strictly to the race rules and guidelines or risk disqualification. Racers should be prepared for challenging obstacles throughout the race as well as unexpected "Skyler Stops" for some extra burpees!
The open category is for everyone, period. All are welcome here. Open racers will get outside their comfort zone and test their limits. These racers will experience the amazing rush of the finish line without the added pressure of perfection.
